BROOKLYN — Avon Lake and Amherst opened Baron Cup tournament play Monday at the Brooklyn Recreation Center in impressive fashion but in vastly different ways.

The Shoremen breezed 7-0 in Baron Cup III action, sweeping past Twinsburg for the third time this year to improve to 23-6. They’ll face the winner of Wednesday’s Lakewood-Nordonia game in Saturday’s semifinals at 1 p.m.

The Comets, on the other hand, were locked in a tight battle with Bay into the third period when the Rockets lost control.
