GLHL Player of the Week leads Preppers to NISS title

University School senior forward Sam Wade filled the nets at Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena last weekend, scoring 13 times in five games as the Preppers captured the National Invitational Scholastic Showcase in Jamestown, NY. In the process, US became the first Ohio-based school to win the prestigious event.

“The National Invitational Scholastic Showcase in Jamestown, NY is always a tournament we have circled on our calendars because of the great programs that attend the tournament,” said US head coach Andy Gerow. “The team is super proud of their accomplishment of being the first Ohio team to win the National Invitational Scholastic Showcase in the 17 years the tournament has been running.”

Wade led the charge offensively for University School, which debuted at #2 on the first OHSAA rankings of the season this morning at MyHockeyRankings.

“Sam is a special player and his talent was showcased this past weekend against some of the best high school hockey teams out there,” Gerow said. “Throughout the weekend he came up with clutch goals that propelled the team to take home the championship and earn his award as the most valuable player in the tournament.”

University School is out to a 10-1-0 start to their season and has won their last seven in a row. Their only loss came to #5 Findlay, by a score of 2-1, at a Thanksgiving tournament.

The Preppers host #4 St. Edward this Saturday in Cleveland Heights. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
