Tournament comes to a close for four Ohio entries

A 3-1 loss at the hands of Cazenovia Park (NY) in their final game of the round robin eliminated Team Ohio 16U from contention in the Tier II 16U National tournament in Grand Rapids, MI.

Zach Bell (St. Edward) scored on the power play 7:17 into the third period to tie the game, 1-1, but CP responded less than two minutes later to re-gain the lead. They sealed the win with an insurance goal with 37 seconds left in regulation and move on to the quarterfinals while Team Ohio heads back to Cleveland.

Andrew Szopo and Logan George assisted on Bell’s goal.

Michael Pelc turned in a solid performance between the piped for Team Ohio, but did not get the goal support

OBJ comeback falls short in quarterfinals

The Ohio AAA Blue Jackets trailed Shattuck St. Mary’s by a score of 4-1 midway through the third period of their Tier I 18U quarterfinal game. They gave a valiant effort to keep their season alive, closing to within a goal, but came up short by a score of 4-3.

Ryan Williams (at 12:18) and Joseph Chaykowski (his second of the game at 14:15) both scored on the power play to get Ohio back in the game, but they were not able to get the equalizer.

Ashton Eriksen had a pair of assists for the Blue Jackets.

Shattuck, which advances to the national semifinal, is the #1 ranked 18U team in the country

Team Ohio 18U Eliminated in Prelims

Team Ohio’s national title defense in the Tier II 18U division came to an end with a 5-1 loss to Cheektowaga (NY) on Saturday afternoon in Green Bay.

A goal from Frankie Valenti (Gilmour Academy) tied the game, 1-1, at the 6:57 mark of the first period, but Team Ohio did not find the net again in the game despite out-shooting Cheektowaga, 20-19, over the final two periods.

Team Ohio finished third in their group with a 1-2 record. The top two teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals

Giampietro, Gladiators Finish on a High Note

The Gilmour Gladiators were already eliminated from contention in the national Tier I Girls 16U tournament before they took the ice for their final game on Saturday, but they finished their season on a high note, defeating Team Colorado 6-1 behind a five-goal outburst from Alaina Giampietro.

Giampietro scored at least one goal in each period, including one on the power play and two shorthanded tallies in the third period.

Gilmour closed out the tournament with a 1-2 record, good for third place in their group.
