Brush Hockey's First Win of Season

Brush Hockey gets first win of the season against CVCA and results from their pre-Christmas Holiday tournament.

Brush Hockey earned its first win of the season against CVCA last Saturday with a 5-1 win over the Royal's freshman and sophomore team. Ben Hidek scored 4 of the 5 Arcs goals with senior captain Seth Martin tallying the other. Junior goalie Sean Miller made 28 saves in the win.

In their next game against Westlake on Sunday, and despite Brush being shorthanded due to COVID restrictions with only 8 skaters, and Westlake dressing 19 skaters, Ben Hidek's goal 2 minutes into the second period tied the game at 1.

Unfortunately for Brush, numbers caught up to them as they lost another starter during the game and Westlake pulled away in the third period against a tired group of Brush skaters, winning 7-2.

Before the holidays, Brush entered the Bay Invitational Holiday Tournament.  They were without senior captain Seth Martin for the tournament. After an opening game loss to Elyria Catholic, Brush found itself down 6-2 to the Bees from Brecksville-Broadview Hts in the second game. However, late in the second period they would mount an epic comeback. A goal by Ben Hidek started the rally which was capped off by Aiden Weise's first goal of the year tying the game at 6 late in the second.  However the Bees would pull away in the third against a shorthanded Arcs squad for the 12-7 victory. Brush would lose to Bay on the final day of the tournament.

Sophomore David Williams had a goal and two assists in the tournament and senior Isaac Alexander also contributed 2 assists. Goalie Sean Miller had 94 saves over the 3 games.
