GATES MILLS — It’s no stretch to call Nordonia’s game Saturday with Mayfield the biggest game in the history of the program.

The Knights met Mayfield at Gilmour Academy — which is the home rink from both programs — amid a playoff-like atmosphere.

Both teams came into the contest at 8-0-1 in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League’s Blue South Division. In the 13-year history of the program, Nordonia had never won a division in the GCHSHL.

Thanks to some overtime heroics from its captain, Nordonia is on the precipice of ending that drought.
