As we head into the meat of the season, Christmas break arriving soon and just about every team competes in either one or multiple tournaments either locally or out of town. Before that, schools had to survive last week and this upcoming week. Here is the update.

WHITE NORTH DIVISION

Amherst Steele (8-3-0, 3-0-0) started its season off extremely busy and has now reached a quiet period in its schedule. The Comets had a single game last week, but it was a big one – a 4-0 win over Olmsted Falls that put Amherst in first place.

The Comets will have a few weeks of rest before Christmas break and the Parma Christmas Tournament.

The Avon Eagles (5-7-0, 1-1-0) had a productive weekend as they beat Kent on Saturday (12/14) by the score of 3-2 and then clobbered Westlake in a non-league game on Sunday (12/15) 10-0. The two wins push their record to 5-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the league. Avon will play Olmsted Falls on Saturday (12/21) at 6:00 PM then play another non-league game, traveling to Gilmour to play against the always strong Gilmour JV team on Sunday (12/22) at 5:00 PM.

Avon Lake (7-4-1, 1-1-1) had the busiest weekend as they took part in the Benedictine Holiday Tournament. After beating the host Benedictine in a very close game (3-1) they met Orange High School in the second game of preliminary play. They beat Orange 7-4 then had to complete the round with a game against Canton/Akron, which is a club team, beating them by the score of 4-3.

The championship game was a rematch against that same Canton/Akron club, and they beat them 5-3 to win the tournament championship.

The Shoremen were unable to rest, as they still had to play a game on Tuesday (12/17) against a non-league opponent in the Lakewood Rangers. The Shoremen continued their roll, beating Lakewood 5-3 for their fifth victory in five days.

Avon Lake looks to keep it going with a key league game against North Olmsted this Saturday (12/21) followed up with a non-league contest against Oregon Clay.

Kent Roosevelt (3-9-0, 1-3-0) was shut out on Thursday (12/12) against North Olmsted 3-0 and then dropped a heartbreaker to Avon on Saturday (12/14) 3-2. The Roughriders will be back home this weekend as they host their annual Kent Holiday Tournament. Action kicks off Thursday (12/19) and continues all weekend long.  Eight teams will compete this year: Hudson, Kent, Kenston, WRA, Olentangy Berlin, Oxford Talawanda, Bishop Watterson and Gahanna Lincoln.

North Olmsted (6-4-0, 2-3-0) picked up a critical win against a feisty Kent Roosevelt team shutting them out 3-0 last week. The Eagles will have a big opportunity this weekend on Saturday (12/21) versus Avon Lake for another big win.

Olmsted Falls (4-3-0, 2-1-0) dropped their first league contest to Amherst on Sunday.  Now, the Bulldogs will try to move on with another big test against Avon this Saturday (12/21). Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 PM.

WHITE SOUTH DIVISION

Aurora continues their strong start to the season as they beat WRA 4-1 on Saturday (12/14) to improve to 7-2-0 overall and, most importantly, 3-1-0 in league play. The Greenmen have a busy weekend ahead with three games in three days starting at home Friday against the new Stow Bulldogs squad.  Aurora will be at home to face off against Twinsburg in another non-league game on Saturday (12/21) before finishing off the weekend against White South rival CVCA at Kent Arena on Sunday (12/22).

Canfield (3-5-0, 0-4-0) dropped two tough games this past weekend against Parma (9-4) and Solon (4-1). Both of those teams are undefeated in league play. Canfield and Western Reserve Academy will both go after their first league win at 5:00 PM this Friday (12/20) at Boardman.

Parma (11-1-1, 3-0-0) kept on rolling as they beat Western Reserve Academy on Saturday (12/14) by the score of 9-4 and then shut out the Canfield Cardinals on Sunday, 4-0. The two league wins pushes Parma to 11-2-0 overall, but most importantly 3-0 in league play. The Redmen will try to keep the league record perfect with a tough game against Solon this Friday.

The Solon Comets, despite their overall record of 4-6-0, have much to be proud of as they continue to be perfect in league play after beating Canfield on Saturday 12/14 by the score of 4-1. This improves their league record to 2-0-0. A battle of unbeaten league records will clash this Friday (12/20) as Solon will host Parma. Puck drop is at 7:20 PM.

Western Reserve Academy (0-7-0, 0-2-0) continues to play an extremely tough schedule both as a prep school and then in league competition. It lost to Parma on Saturday by a score of 9-4 and then lost to Aurora on the same day by a score of 4-1. Playing two games a few hours apart is always physically draining but with the schedule WRA plays, it has to be done sometimes. The Pioneers will try and get their first win this weekend as they play in the Kent Holiday Tournament with a league game tossed in the mix this Friday (12/20) vs Canfield. WRA opens up the tournament on Thursday (12/19) against a very strong Hudson team and will also mix it up with two teams from the Columbus area:  Olentangy Berlin and Gahanna Lincoln.

The only white division team that had a break the past 10 days or so was CVCA. With a record of 1-5-0 (1-2-0 in the division), the Royals get back into action this Sunday with a league contest against Aurora.
