Record Numbers, Fun, and Camaraderie!

The 4th annual Beavercreek Varsity Hockey Golf Scramble on Saturday, September 28th, saw a record 92 golfers come out to have a great time and support our program. We were delighted to not only see familiar faces–especially our returning golfers and alumni–but also many new friends! Moreover, as our big annual fundraiser, the success of this year’s scramble ensures our program’s financial strength.

Changes Coming to the SWOHSHL

By Michael Schemmel 07/02/2019, 10:30am EDT

Eight teams, two divisions lined up for 2019-20

Commissioner Tony Morris of the Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League (SWOHSHL) confirmed that there will be changes next season in the league. First, the league will shrink to eight fully-participating teams due to St. Xavier leaving for the Capital Hockey Conference (CHC).

The league will continue to have two divisions, an upper and a lower division for the regular season. However all eight teams will compete in one post-season tournament with a 1-8 seeding coming from the regular season results.

LaSalle is an independent member of the league, meaning teams have the choice to schedule games with the Lancers if possible.

All Red and Gold Division teams will play 10 league games, playing each divisional opponent twice and the other divisional teams once. The Red division will consist of Archbishop Alter, Beavercreek, Centerville and Talawanda. The Gold division will consist of Elder, Mason, Sycamore and Troy.

Sycamore, Talawanda and Troy will all have new head coaches. Details and names will come later this summer.

Mr. Morris is pleased with the OHSAA initiatives to reduce injuries. He cited the conditioning period changes and the training provided to players by reinforcing proper checking techniques at the beginning of the season.

By Michael Schemmel 05/08/2019, 1:15pm EDT

SWOHSHL Prospects Head East

As players from around the state look to move on to competitive hockey at the next level, a pair of Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League players have signed to play junior hockey in Massachusetts.

Drew Schemmel, an All-Ohio Honorable Mention selection from Centerville High School and Ian Kuntz of Troy High School both committed to play next season with the Northeast Generals in the NA3HL.

Both players are seniors and were First Team All-SWOHSHL selections and were recruited by the Generals after playing with the Dayton Falcons in the NA3HL.

Schemmel and Kuntz both played several years of AAA hockey, first with Team Ohio, then the Dayton Stealth.

Kuntz also played for the Ohio Blue Jackets prior to joining the Troy team this year, while Schemmel played a total of three years for Centerville.

The Northeast Generals are located in Attleboro, Massachusetts and have teams competing in the Tier II North American Hockey League (NAHL) as well as the Tier III NA3HL.
