Nordonia ice hockey skates through busy weekend

It was a busy weekend for the Nordonia ice hockey squad, but coach Rich Cinalli seems to like the direction of his squad as it heads toward the postseason. 

On Friday on its home ice at Gilmour Academy, Nordonia lost a 7-2 game to Chagrin Falls, which competes in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League’s White South Division. 

On Saturday, the Knights traveled to North Canton Hoover, which completes in GCHSHL’s Blue North Division, and lost 3-0. 

Finally on Sunday at Gilmour, Nordonia scored a 3-2 win on its Senior Night over fellow Blue South Division foe Mayfield.

Brush's Mike Kornet sets state single-game saves record

Arcs goalie turns aside 106 in 10-0 loss

Brush goaltender Mike Kornet shattered the state record for most saves in a game with 106 in a 10-0 loss to Blue South leader Lakewood on Jan. 19 at Cleveland Heights.

The previous state standard also had an area tie. Chagrin Falls put 105 shots on goal and Brooklyn goalie Ish Qasem saved 97 of them in an 8-0 Tigers win at 2009 Baron Cup III.

Ice Knights show some progress in December

Nordonia resumes league play Wednesday at EC

Nordonia coach Rich Cinalli knows progress for his team is not going to be steady, but he has seen it over the last few weeks. 

Nordonia got its first win of the season Dec. 9 as it pulled out a 3-2 win over Mayfield in a Blue South Division game at the Gilmour Ice Arena. About 24 hours later, the Knights lost 2-0 to Blue South nemesis Brooklyn at Gilmour.
