Solon ends Hudson hockey’s season

Explorers eliminated despite furious rally

Two years ago, the Hudson ice hockey team saw its season end against Solon in the second round of the Kent district tournament.

Sadly for the Explorers, history repeated itself two years later.

Despite a furious third-period rally, eighth-seeded Hudson’s season came to an end after suffering a 5-4 loss to the ninth-seeded Comets in overtime.

The second-round Kent district game took place Friday evening at Kent State University Ice Arena.

If you want parity, this year’s Baron Cup I bracket is seemingly the place to be.

The Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League Red Division’s city championship tournament kicks off Feb. 7 at Brooklyn with as much doubt over who could reign on Baron Cup Sunday as arguably there has been since the defection of the former “old Red North” squads to form the Great Lakes Hockey League.

River rally nets 3-2 win over Hudson

Pirates 3-0 against Explorers this season

KENT, Ohio – Rocky River ran its Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League Red North Division record to 6-2 with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Hudson on Thursday night.

A dwindling-minutes, third-period goal by junior defenseman Tommy Kelly capped off a rally that saw the Pirates (16-10, 6-2 GCHSHL Red North) score three unanswered goals. Kelly and senior captain Teddy Stueber each logged two points in the road win. With the victory, Rocky River is now 3-0 against the Explorers this season.
