Chugh steps down as Orange’s coach

Posted 53 wins in three-year stint with Pioneers

Tim Chugh has resigned as coach of the Olentangy Orange High School hockey team because of family obligations during the coming months.

In Chugh’s three seasons, the Pioneers finished 53-45-4-3 overall and 25-19-1-3 in the Capital Hockey Conference. This past season, they were 19-16-1 overall and fourth (13 points, 6-9-1) in CHC-White Division behind champion Cincinnati Moeller (25, 12-3-0-1).

Chiller North facility in Lewis Center plans $5 million expansion

Third sheet to be added

The OhioHealth Chiller North ice rink in Lewis Center plans a $5 million expansion that will add a third sheet of ice along with additional locker room and shower facilities.

The move is in response to growing demand from youth and amateur hockey and skating programs, according to owner JMAC Inc.

The announcement comes one month after another group said it plans to build a $12 million ice rink and training facility near I-270 and Sawmill Road on the Far North Side.

CHC continues to grow in 15th season

More expansion on the horizon?

Greg Kirstein still has big dreams for the Capital Hockey Conference.

Kirstein helped form the central Ohio high school league in 2003 while working with the Dublin High School Hockey Association. The CHC consisted of seven teams in its inaugural season in 2003-04 and now, in its 15th season, is comprised of 14 varsity and 12 junior varsity teams.

Kirstein, a senior vice president and general counsel for the Blue Jackets, would like to see the league continue to expand.
