Teams jockey for position in SWOHSHL, CHC

Teams are beginning to fall into place for the end of season tournament in the Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League. The Red Division has St Xavier in first, Talawanda second, Centerville third, Alter fourth and Elder in fifth. The winner of the Gold division joins the Red division in the tournament to determine the League Champion. In the Gold division, Beavercreek has wrapped up the division. Troy is in second, La Salle currently third, followed by Sycamore and Mason.

St Xavier continues their winning ways in the league, with two wins this weekend over second place Talawanda (4-1) and fourth place Alter (8-3). The Bombers are now 12-0 in the league and finish this weekend with just one game where they host Gold division leader Beavercreek. The Bombers can complete the perfect season on Sunday with a win. The Bombers will be the #1 seed and have a bye in the first round of the tournament.

Talawanda split a pair of games last weekend, beating Centerville (5-0) and then losing to St Xavier (1-4). The Braves finish the regular season with Centerville at home Saturday and then at Alter on Sunday. One win will likely sew up second place and a bye in the league tournament for the Braves.

Centerville lost to Talawanda on Friday before winning games over Sycamore (11-2) and Troy (9-5). Centerville is still fighting for third or possibly second in the league but must beat Talawanda and La Salle this weekend and get help from Alter. The Elks must also play a tough Moeller team on Friday night.

Alter lost to St Xavier (3-8) but rebounded against Elder on Sunday (9-3). The Knights have a full slate of games this weekend starting with travelling to La Salle Friday night, before hosting a non-league game against the Northwest Eagles Saturday morning, then finishing with Talawanda on Sunday evening. Alter is playing for a possible third or fourth place finish.

Elder lost to Troy and Alter over the weekend and sits in fifth place. The Panthers travel to Beavercreek on Friday night, then it’s on to Toledo to play Perrysburg on Saturday and Clay on Sunday to finish the season. Elder will be fifth for the league tournament.

In the Gold division, Beavercreek won over Mason on Saturday in their only game. The Beavers play Elder Friday night and St Xavier on Sunday. The Beavers will be the #6 seed in the tournament and will play the #3 seed once decided.

Troy beat Elder on Saturday and lost to Centerville on Sunday. The Trojans will play Sycamore and the NW Eagles this weekend. The Trojans will be the #1 seed in the Gold bracket of the end of season tournament.

La Salle won two games over the weekend, beating Mason (9-1) and Sycamore (5-3) to move into third place in the division. The Lancers host Alter and Centerville this weekend. Sycamore lost to Centerville and La Salle this weekend and travels to Mason and Troy this weekend. Mason lost to La Salle and Beavercreek. The Comets face Sycamore on Friday to finish the season.

Over the in the Capital Hockey Conference, Moeller played three tough league opponents over the weekend. The Crusaders lost Thursday night to Upper Arlington in overtime, 2-3. On Saturday the Crusaders traveled to Dublin and lost to the Coffman Rocks 3-5. Sunday the Crusaders earned a tie against the league leading Liberty Patriots. Moeller is currently in 6th place in the Red Division of the Capital Conference. Moeller hosts Dublin Jerome Thursday before hosting Bishop Watterson on Saturday and hosting Olentangy Liberty on Sunday.

Also in the CHC, Springboro etched out a 2-1 win over Bishop Watterson on Friday night, but had a rough time the rest of the weekend. Saturday saw the Panthers lose to Upper Arlington 2-10 at the Ice Haus and then the Panthers lost to St Charles 0-10 at the Springfield Chiller. Springfield is currently in 5th place in the White Division of the Capital Conference. The Panthers host Olentangy Orange on Tuesday, then travel to Chiller North to play Olentangy Berlin Friday and the Olentangy Braves on Saturday.
