Winter Weather Takes a Bite Out of Schedule

For the second weekend in a row, Southwest Ohio was hit with winter storms over most of the weekend causing many games to be cancelled.

Around the Southwest Ohio League:

League leading St Xavier had their only game on the weekend of the 12-13th with Alter postponed until the 25th.  Over the past weekend, the Bombers were in Toledo for the Tam O Shanter tournament. The tournament was not kind to the Bombers who lost games to Upper Arlington, St John’s Jesuit, and Dublin Jerome. The lone win was on Sunday over Dublin Coffman 3-2. This weekend the Bombers face Alter and Talawanda in league games.

The Alter Knights were able to get in their league game with LaSalle on Saturday the 12th. The Knights prevailed over the Lancers 3-1. Last weekend saw the Knights travel to Parma for the MLK tournament. The Knights went 3-1 in the tournament, winning games over Holy Name JV, Mayfield, and Brecksville. The lone loss of the weekend came in the final game of the tournament to Parma 3-2. Alter has a full slate this weekend with league games against St Xavier and Elder and a non-league game against the Dayton Stealth JV team.

The Centerville Elks have been decimated by injuries and ineligible players. Playing with just 8 skaters on the 11th, the Elks lost to Thomas Worthington. Weather caused Findlay to cancel on the 12th. Centerville hosted an MLK tournament last weekend. The weather played havoc on the tournament, causing two teams to cancel and reducing the tournament to 4 teams. The Elks opened the tournament with a league win against Elder before dropping games to Canton/Akron and a heartbreaker to Northern Kentucky in a shootout on Saturday night. Sunday games were also cancelled due to weather. The Elks have a full schedule this weekend hosting Talawanda Friday night, hosting Sycamore Saturday night and traveling to Troy on Sunday evening.

The Elder Panthers lost to Northern Kentucky on the 12th and traveled to Troy to knock off the Trojans on the 13th. Elder played in the Centerville MLK tournament over the past weekend. The Panthers lost to Centerville, Canton/Akron and Northern Kentucky in the tournament. Games on Sunday were cancelled. The Panthers host Troy and Alter this weekend.

In the Gold division, Beavercreek won over Sycamore in league action on Friday the 11th before travelling to Strongsville for the Ehrnfelt Tournament. The Beavers took 3rd place in the Black division of the tournament. The Beavers dropped games against Cleveland Heights and Harborcreek before tying Strongsville and then beating Harborcreek. Beavercreek plays Mason on Saturday night.

Troy squeezed in games against Mason on the 11th and the 12th against Elder before weather cancelled the rest of their games this past weekend. The Trojans beat Mason and lost to Elder. Troy visits Elder and hosts Centerville this weekend.

Sycamore lost to Beavercreek on Friday the 11th, beat Mason on Saturday the 11th and then beat Elder on Wednesday the 16th in a rare weeknight game. The Aves traveled to Strongsville as well for the Ehrnfelt tournament. The Aves had a difficult time in the tournament dropping all four games over the weekend. Sycamore visits Centerville and hosts LaSalle this weekend.

La Salle Lost to Alter on Saturday the 12th and cancelled games last weekend. The Lancers are at Mason before hosting Columbus Academy and then visiting Sycamore on Sunday.

Mason lost to Troy on the 11th and Sycamore on the 12th before beating the Elder JV team last Saturday. The Comets face LaSalle on Friday and Beavercreek on Saturday.
