Preppers PK comes through in 5-2 win over St. Charles

University School defeated Columbus St. Charles, 5-2, in Sunday afternoon’s third-place game at the 22nd annual Padua Holiday Hockey Tournament.

Trey Willis scored to get the Cardinals within a goal, at 3-2, with 5:38 left in the second period, and St. Charles went on a power play shortly thereafter with a chance to tie the score, but the Preppers scored a pair of shorthanded goals in the final 1:13 of the frame to take the wind out of any St. Charles comeback attempt.

Tyler Alt and John Pape scored with US skating a man down.  It was Pape’s second goal of the game.

University School junior goaltender Michael Holtz stopped 20 of 22 shots, including all nine he faced in the third period.

Even with the win, and an undefeated (3-0-1) mark at the tournament, University School had to settle for third place at the prestigious tournament while St. Charles goes home with a 1-2-1 mark and fourth place.
