Tanyon Bajzer figured in three of four St. Edward goals, scoring one and assisting on two others, as the Eagles held on for a 4-3 win over St. Charles Saturday morning at the Padua Holiday Hockey Tournament.
Trey Willis scored with 5:40 left in the third period to get the Cardinals within a goal, but St. Edward goaltender Nate Cappellazzo (20 saves) and the Eagles held the fort and did not allow the equalizer.
With the 4.0 standings points they picked up in the game, Ed’s is tied with Upper Arlington for the top spot in the East Division standings at the tournament.
The Eagles (2-0-0/8.0 points) play Findlay at 5:00 p.m. with hopes of qualifying for Sunday’s championship game.
Despite the loss, St. Charles (1-1-0/4.0 points) is still atop the West Division with their final preliminary game coming up against Shaker Heights also at 5:00 p.m.
A re-match between these two teams in tomorrow’s title game remains a possibility.
