UA tops Northview, 5-1

Sylvania Northview struck first, but Upper Arlington dominated the final two periods of a 5-1 win to close out the first day of competition at the 22nd annual Padua Holiday Hockey Tournament.

The Golden Bears trailed, 1-0, after the first period, but scored three times in the second frame to take control of the game.  Will Cohen tied it at the 2:39 mark and Hunter Triplett scored twice – the second one coming shorthanded – to give UA a 3-1 lead going into the third period.

Upper Arlington’s sophomore netminder Garrett Alderman was sharp, shaking off the early goal to shut the door the rest of the way, finishing the game with 23 saves.

Tyler Clem, also a sophomore, made 30 saves for Northview and Devon Dohanos scored for the Wildcats.

Northview (0-1-0/1.0 points) plays University School tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. while Upper Arlington (1-0-0/4.0 points) is back on the ice against Toledo St. Francis at 11:00 a.m.
