Eight Ohio players selected in NA3HL Draft

Three Cleveland Barons among the draftees

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) held its annual player draft Wednesday and eight Ohio-based players were among those picked.  The NA3HL is a Tier III junior league with 47 teams spread out over 21 states.

Three Cleveland Jr. Barons players had their name called, including forward Christian Barons of the U18 squad.  He went 48th overall to the Louisiana Drillers.

The Yellowstone (Cody, WY) Quake selected three players from Ohio:  forward Dillon Manchester (Barons 18U), goaltender Mikhail Melnikau (Barons 16U) and the first of two OHSAA players to be selected, defenseman Sam Turner of the Olentangy Braves.

A pair of forwards from the Ohio Jr. Blue Jackets, Ryan Higgins and Elliott Burgin, were picked by the Breezy Point (MN) North Stars and Willmar (MN) Warhawks, respectively.

6’4”, 187-pound forward Daniel Menges, a four-year player for the Gilmour Academy prep team, was selected by the La Crosse (WI) Freeze.

The College Station (TX) Spirit got in on the act, picking Holy Name sophomore and Team Ohio 16U defenseman Brennan Dickey.
