Troy Trojans go after fifth title in seven years

Friday, November 24 – Sunday, November 26 @Kettering Rec Center

Each of the six teams will play three preliminary games using the five-point system (two points for a win plus an extra point for each period won).  The two teams that accumulate the most points will play for the title on Sunday, along with two other placement games.  Among the 2017 entrants, Troy won the tournament most recently – in 2013.

KEY PRELIMINARY MATCH-UPS

Troy vs. Beavercreek, Friday at 8:20 p.m.

This is a tough draw.  The winner will almost certainly have a spot in Sunday’s championship game.  It is not out of the question that both teams make the final depending on how the extra points are awarded in the five-point system, but the loser will be in a tough spot.  The tournament organizers from The Creek could have given themselves an easier path to the championship game but did not.  Kudos to them for setting up this tilt as the final prelim game.

FAVORITE(S)

The Troy Trojans have had the most success in recent years among the teams in this year’s field.  They are also the only Red Division team competing this year, so we’ll go with them as the favorites, but host Beavercreek is about due.
