Turning a football field into a hockey rink

In Cleveland, it takes science, hard work and help from Mother Nature

CLEVELAND, Ohio – For what might be the first time ever, the rarest of words have been uttered in Northeast Ohio:

“We’re hoping for clouds.”

That comes from Brad Mohr, FirstEnergy director of stadium operations, this week as the sun shined on the field during a pleasant day with temperatures in the 40s.

That’s on the wish list of the folks who are orchestrating outdoor hockey and skating sessions at the stadium. High school postseason, minor-league and college games are set in addition to open skates.

Games begin this week with events running through early March. The inaugural effort is bringing together organization, hard work, science and a humble request for Mother Nature.
