BROOKLYN — Avon faced two opponents in its district tournament opener Wednesday, and the one on the ice — Parma — scored twice in the third period, including an empty-netter, to pull out a 5-3 victory at the John M. Coyne Recreation Center.
The Redmen also had history on their side, as the Parma schools are consolidating after this year and Parma is playing its final season after starting in 1974. The Redmen played like they did not want the run to end.
The Eagles' most frustrating season finished with a 2-26 mark, while Parma improved to 21-8-3 and almost certainly will have its last game in program history Sunday when it faces St. Edward on Sunday at noon.
