No shortage of great matchups this weekend in Strongsville

With 12 of the top 15 teams in the state of Ohio all meeting up at OBM Arena in Strongsville this weekend, you can’t really go wrong if you drop in to see a game or two. You are certain to see two of the top teams in the state going toe-to-toe on either rink.

Teams will each play three games against teams from the opposite division and the 5-point system will be used to seed teams for Sunday’s crossover games (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 1 point for each period won).

Last season, two non-Cleveland teams met in the championship game for the first time in tournament history as Upper Arlington defeated Capital Hockey Conference rival St. Charles, 4-1, for bragging rights.

West Division

Findlay (NHC)
St. Charles (CHC)
Sylvania Northview (NHC)
Toledo St. Francis (NHC)
Toledo St. John's (NHC)
Upper Arlington (CHC)

East Division

Olentangy Liberty (CHC)
Padua Franciscan (GLHL - HOST)
St. Edward (independent)
Shaker Heights (GLHL)
University School (GLHL)
Walsh Jesuit (GLHL)

MUST-SEE GAMES

So, if you still have Christmas shopping to do or have not finished your Exterior Illumination and had to choose, which game should you make sure not to miss this weekend?

Friday, December 16

#3 St. Edward vs. #4 Sylvania Northview (6:20 PM, East Rink)

The Eagles defeated the Wildcats, 5-1, at the Cold Turkey Shootout in November.

#2 Olentangy Liberty vs. #13 Toledo St. Francis (8:30 PM, East Rink)

St. Francis arrives in town looking to accelerate their climb up the standings after a slow start to the season. A win over the #2 Patriots would do just that.

Saturday, December 17

#9 Walsh Jesuit vs. #10 Findlay (7:50 AM, West Rink)

Two evenly-matched teams fighting to stay in the Top 10. The Warriors defeated the Trojans, 4-3, in NW Ohio two weeks ago.

#2 Olentangy Liberty vs. #4 Sylvania Northview (9:50 AM, West Rink)

Two teams within striking distance of the #1 spot. The Patriots defeated the Wildcats, 4-1, at the Cold Turkey Shootout

#5 Padua Franciscan vs. #10 Findlay (3:00 PM, East Rink)

The host Bruins look to build on their hot start and solidify their Top 5 rankings in front of their home crowd.

#3 St. Edward vs. #13 Toledo St. Francis (5:10 PM, East Rink)

Traditional rivals at the highest level. St. Edward will try for their third straight regional title this spring while St. Francis will chase their fourth in a row. Throw the rankings out the window.

Sunday, December 18

Take your pick! Sometimes the early games can be a little rough on a tournament Sunday, but all six should be evenly-matched and the last two games of the tournament, the third place (11:20 AM) and championship matches (1:30 PM) are sure to provide entertainment.
