One of the two league games between the defending state champion Toledo St. Francis Knights and the Findlay Trojans was cancelled this season. They did not get to make that game up, but how about meeting in a regional championship game instead?

I think both teams are OK with that.

Head coach Chris Varga’s Knights defeated St. Edward in the state championship game a year ago and have won six of the last seven Sylvania Regional tournaments – including a 5-2 win over Sylvania Northview in 2021.

Last year’s regional title was the 13th in school history for St. Francis. The state championship was its third.

A lot of people outside of Trojans Nation don’t realize that Findlay has a pair of state titles of its own (1978, 1983), but it has not been to a state tournament since 2002.

St. Francis lost back-to-back games as recently as February 10 & 11 but outscored their first two post-season opponents by a combined 14-0.

Findlay is 16-2-2 since December 18 but they needed an Ethan Lammers goal with 1:04 left in regulation to get past Bowling Green in last weekend’s semifinal.
