Bobcats go up against St. Francis Friday

Jamie Ruffner had a vision.

When the Bowling Green High School hockey program went on a hiatus during the 2018-19 season due to a lack of participation, Bobcats athletic director Dirk Conner was tasked with finding a new conductor to steer the train back onto the tracks.

Ruffner was his guy.

“We wanted to find someone who understood the program and had a vision to build it back up, and that’s what Jamie had from day one,” Conner said. “When we started this, we were talking about a varsity schedule or should we water it down a bit, and he wanted to jump in the deep pool and learn on the fly.”

The program is not only back on its feet, but they have excelled despite tragic circumstances that shell-shocked the entire Bowling Green High School community. The Bobcats are playing for the highest personal stakes since the glory years of the program in the 1980s and ’90s, and will do so on Friday against a familiar foe.
