Buffalo Sabres sign Medina native to entry-level contract

The Buffalo Sabres have agreed to terms with Medina native and Western Michigan University forward Dawson DiPietro on a one-year, entry-level contract.

DiPietro, 24, tallied 29 points (12-17-29) in 35 games this season and produced 88 points (34-54-88) in 105 career games for the Broncos. He participated in the Sabres' annual development camp last summer.

"Dawson was excellent at our development camp last summer, where he was able to showcase his speed and skill," Sabres general manager Jason Botterill told NHL.com. "His high-energy, up-tempo style was an important asset for Western Michigan, and we're excited to add his skillset to our group."

DiPietro played at Walsh Jesuit and for Team Ohio and the Cleveland Jr. Barons before moving on to Tier II junior hockey in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), and then an NCAA Division I career at WMU.  In 2012-13, he scored 66 goals and added 67 assists for 133 points in just 47 games for Team Ohio.
