River still chasing Mentor

All seven GCHSHL Red Division teams qualify for the Baron Cup, so there are no qualification races coming down to the wire, but final seeding will be sorted out to determine first-round matchups.

The Barons Cup kicks off Wednesday with the first two quarterfinal games.

Mentor (27-2-1; 11-0-0) – The Cardinals split their weekend series. Shaker Heights continues to be a thorn in their sides, as they defeated Mentor 4-3. Both of Mentor’s two losses his season are to the Red Raiders.  However, the Cardinals rebounded and took down Strongsville on Sunday. Mentor and Rocky River will face off this Friday (2/7), where the league title could be up for grabs.

Rocky River (19-6-3; 9-1-0) The Pirates picked up two league wins over the weekend, taking down Benedictine and Cleveland Heights.  Rocky River heads to Mentor this Friday (2/7) in a pivotal league match-up.  A River win would lead to a tie atop the Red Division standings if they also finish their regular season with a win over Benedictine on Saturday (2/8).

Strongsville (17-12-1; 6-5-1) – The Mustangs has a full slate of games last weekend, going 1-2. Strongsville defeated Kenston but lost to Olmsted Falls and Mentor. This weekend Strongsville will wrap their regular season with a non-league match-up at home with Bowling Green on Saturday (2/8).

Hudson (14-11-1; 4-5-1) – The Explorers didn’t have any scheduled games this past week. Hudson has two remaining regular season matchups this week against Kenston on Friday (2/7) and an away game against Cleveland Heights on Saturday (2/8).

Benedictine (10-12-0; 3-7-0) Benedictine split the two games they had last weekend, defeating Cleveland Heights and losing to Rocky River.  The Bengals will face similar foes this weekend as they again have contests versus Cleveland Heights this Thursday (2/6) and Rocky River on Saturday (2/8).

Kenston (10-18-0; 2-9-0) – Kenston lost to Strongsville this past weekend. The Bombers will wrap their regular season this weekend with matchups against Hudson on Friday (2/7) and Orange on Saturday (2/8).

Cleveland Heights (7-21-0; 1-9-0) – The Tigers lost a tight one against Benedictine 2-1 last Thursday and lost to Rocky River Saturday. Cleveland Heights will again take on Benedictine this Thursday (2/6) and finish their regular season at home against Hudson on Saturday (2/8).
