Junior Forward Scored GWG in Cleveland Cup Final

Holy Name junior forward Brennan Dickey was a first-round selection, 14th overall, in the 2019 NA3HL Draft held on Thursday, April 18.

Dickey, a converted defenseman, scored 29 goals and added 31 assists for 60 points in 33 games for the Green Wave.  He provided the game-winning goal as the Namers captured the Great Lakes Hockey League’s Cleveland Cup for the first time with a 2-1 win over University School on February 9.

“Brennen has worked tremendously hard on and off the ice to become the player he is today,” said Sullivan.  “His work ethic will continue to provide him opportunities at the next levels.”

Dickey was selected by the Sheridan (WY) Hawks team that will play out of the Sheridan Ice M&M’s Center. The franchise is relocating from Wisconsin where they played as the Wisconsin Whalers since 2013.

Dr. Brenton Milner is the President and is a practicing orthopedic surgeon in Sheridan, WY.

"We are extremely excited to be bringing a higher level of competitive hockey to Sheridan.  After opening our first outdoor rink 15 years ago, we have been striving to develop the sport in our community.  Now after covering the rink in 2015, we have a beautiful new facility, top-tier youth coaches, thriving youth and adult hockey programs and hundreds of deeply committed donors and families who support our mission. Bringing in an NA3HL team is a natural next step for us,” said Milner.

Entering its ninth season in 2018-19, the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), one of two USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III Junior leagues.  In addition to the 50+ players who advanced to play in the Tier II NAHL throughout the season, which was the most movement to the NAHL out of any Tier III junior league, over 150 NA3HL players made college commitments during the 2017-18 season.

The NA3HL began back in the early 1980's as the Junior B level Central States Hockey League (CSHL). In 2007, the CSHL changed from Junior B to Tier III Junior A under the USA Hockey classification system. On November 1, 2010 it was announced that the North American Hockey League (NAHL) would take control of the CSHL. The NAHL-CSHL affiliation allowed for a more structured junior hockey system to provide athletes with more opportunities to advance to college and pro hockey. At the time of the take over the league was renamed to the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL).
