Hilliard's Scherer selected #1 by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

Ohio Blue Jackets U18 defenseman Trevor Scherer was selected first overall in yesterday’s NA3HL Draft by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

Scherer, a 2001-born Hilliard, OH native has worked his way up through the ranks with the Blue Jackets in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League, playing at the U15, U16 and U18 levels over the past three seasons.

The 6’1”, 175-pound blue liner scored two goals and collected five assists in 36 games this season.

Blue Jackets U18 head coach Ed Gingher was happy to see one of his players taken with the first pick.

“Anytime you get taken #1 overall it’s special,” said Gingher.  “Trevor has worked very hard and it’s nice to see him get some recognition for his work.”

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) is one of two USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier III Junior leagues.  Over 150 NA3HL players made college commitments during the 2017-18 season.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights will operate in Pittston, Pennsylvania under the same ownership and management as the Tier II NAHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.
