Bulldogs to ice independent Club team in 2019-20

Stow-Munroe Press Release:

We are very excited to bring Ice Hockey back to Stow-Munroe Falls High School for the 2019-20 season.  We are currently looking for additional Male and/or Female hockey players who attend SMF High School or attend a high school that currently does not have a hockey team.

We are an OHSAA High School Club Hockey team and will be playing an independent schedule for the first 1-3 years.  We will be scheduling games against OHSAA Blue/White Division teams and other Club teams with possible Pre/Post season tournaments as well.  Our home games and practices will be held at Kent State Ice Arena.  Additional off-ice activities (Weightlifting, Gym Work, Athletic Training needs, etc.) will take place at Stow-Munroe Falls High School.  Players will be eligible for Varsity Letter and will be able to pick Jersey number.

The team will be led by Head Coach Ryan Schelien and assisted by Jeff Napieralski.  Coach Schelien has been playing and /or coaching for over 35 years.  He played Bantam AAA hockey for the Cleveland Americans and Midget AAA for the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks.  He then played Junior Hockey for the Cleveland Barons and went on to play his collegiate career at Ohio University (ACHA D1) where he was part of two consecutive National Championships teams.  While attending OU, he assisted the Bantam and High School teams in Athens.  When he returned to Northeast Ohio, he coached the Gilmour Bantam AA team.  He currently has four boys playing hockey and has spent the last seven years coaching at all levels for the Kent Cyclones Youth Hockey program.

Coach Napieralski grew up in Rochester, NY playing for the Rochester Americans organization where he played AAA Bantam and Midget.  He was a four-year Varsity Letterman at Greece High School in Greece, NY and won the 1996 NY Division 1 state championship.  After high school he continued his hockey career at Kent State University (ACHA D1). He has coached in the Kent Cyclones Youth Hockey organization the past two years.

Both Coaches are very excited to help grow the sport of Ice Hockey and provide another place for kids to continue their hockey careers at Stow-Munroe Falls High School.  If you would like to try out for the team, please contact us below.
