Mike Kornet’s Ohio record 106 saves may also be in national mark contention

Brush goaltender Mike Kornet not only made Ohio high school hockey history when he had 106 saves Jan. 19 against Lakewood.

Research appears to show it may also be in contention for the United States record as well.

Boys ice hockey is officially sanctioned as a sport by its state’s high school sports governing body in 14 states and is played as a club sport in several more.

Unfortunately, the collection of records in each state — and nationally — is disjointed at best for hockey.

Arcs goalie turns aside 106 in 10-0 loss

Brush goaltender Mike Kornet shattered the state record for most saves in a game with 106 in a 10-0 loss to Blue South leader Lakewood on Jan. 19 at Cleveland Heights.

The previous state standard also had an area tie. Chagrin Falls put 105 shots on goal and Brooklyn goalie Ish Qasem saved 97 of them in an 8-0 Tigers win at 2009 Baron Cup III.

Hurricanes Improve to 12-1

BROOKLYN, OHIO – The Brooklyn Hurricanes dominated from the face off on Thursday night, skating to another win, as they breezed past the still winless Brush Arcs 10-0 at the Brooklyn Rec Center.

The Hurricanes dominated from the start, pushing their 2017-18 mark to 12-1 on the season. The Arcs, who have scored just four goals all year (all of which came in a loss to Garfield Heights), drop to 0-8.
