Northview withstands late push by Ed’s to advance to title game
The St. Edward Eagles scored twice late in the third period to draw within a goal, but Sylvania Northview scored an empty-netter to seal a 5-3 win that earned them a berth in tomorrow’s championship game against Saint Ignatius.
Northview took a 2-1 lead into the second period but opened up a three-goal lead with a pair of goals separated by just 1:11 early in the period. Teddy Bugert’s second of the game was followed closely by a Brett Blasingim tally that gave the Wildcats a 4-1 lead which they took into the third period.
Matt Smith and Tyler Budzar scored the late goals as the Eagles made their push, but the tactic of pulling goaltender Andrew Stewart (22 saves) did not work this time.
